During the months of April to July an abundance of walruses, seals, polar bears, narwhals, bowhead and beluga whales and a large variety of migratory birds gather where the open sea and frozen sea converge. Enjoy spectacular wilderness scenery and pass drifting icebergs. Experienced guides, familiar with tides, weather patterns and changing sea ice conditions provide you with the safest and most comfortable wildlife viewing experience in this unique Arctic wilderness setting.

Itinerary

Day 1

Afternoon:

  • Flight arrives in Naujaat
  • Pick up at airport and transfer to hotel
  • Free time to explore the community

Evening:

  • Dinner at hotel
  • Overnight at hotel

Morning:

  • Pick up at hotel
  • Tour goes by snowmobile / kamatuk to the location of Floe Edge (Guides will take a boat along for safety reasons)
  • Share stories as well.
  • May to second week of July (depending on ice conditions)

Afternoon:

  • Arrive at Floe Edge and set up camp
  • Lunch at camp

Evening:

  • Wildlife viewing and storytelling
  • Overnight at camp

Day 2 – 5

Morning:

  • Breakfast a camp

Day 6

Additional Information

Flights:

Calm Air provides direct flights between Rankin Inlet and Naujaat on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The flight, which normally takes one hour and fifteen minutes, departs Rankin Inlet at noon and arrives in Naujaat at 1:15 PM. Return flights depart Naujaat at 2:00 PM and arrive back in Rankin Inlet at 3:15 PM.

If you are travelling from Winnipeg, you may need to spend the night in Rankin Inlet before proceeding on to Naujaat the next day.

Accommodations:

Guests visiting Naujaat can stay at the Naujaat Hotel Inns North. The hotel has 20 rooms including 13 standard rooms and 7 executive rooms. Each room includes a private bathroom, cable TV, a microwave and mini-fridge and Wi-Fi. Guests staying at the hotel can also access on-site laundry facilities.

For guests participating in our multi-day excursion we provide Arctic tents, including a 2-inch foam bed and a sleeping bag. As part of the experience, guests can help the guides assemble the tent. This has proved to be a popular activity with guests of the years.

In terms of washroom facilities, a separate tent is built for the toilet, which consists of non-running water and a bucket with toilet paper.

Meals:

The Naujaat Hotel Inns North offers restaurant service for breakfast lunch and dinner. For those looking for a quick meal, Tundra Takeout offers a wide selection of fast food items. Visitors to town can also purchase groceries at the local COOP. The store is open daily from Monday – Saturday from 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM and on Sundays from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM.

Ground Transportation:

Guests staying at the Naujaat Hotel can access the complimentary airport shuttle service. As part of our tour packages, we also pick our guests up at the hotel at the start of the tour and drop them off at the hotel once the tour has been completed.
